Music thats popular among teenagers today

Music is a huge part of almost every teenagers life. Although the music teenagers prefer differ immensely they are all the same in the way they shape and sometimes influence our lives. Music can inspire us and make us think and evaluate the way we live and treat the people around us.
The most popular music styles right now among my friends and fellow teenagers are probably rock, rap, and hip hop. I believe these styles are so popular because they express what almost every teenager faces on a day to day basis. To me it is also a way of rebelling. My parents hate the music I listen to so it, in a way, gives me a way to express my mood and how I feel about some subjects.
The difference between rock, rap, and hip hop is not only the beat but also some of the messages they send out to people. When people hear hip hop they think of up beat and something they can dance to. On the other hand when some older adults hear rock they associate it with anger and rebellious thoughts. Which is quite stereotypical just like saying rap is only about drugs, sex, and violence. Although some of the lyrics are, a lot of times they have more in depth meaning to them. But all three types of music are the same in the way they reach out and make you think and wonder how life is, and how it should be, and how hard it can be at times.
I personally think that the older generation of music is more mellow and has less lyrics associated with drugs and problems average people can face within their lives like sex and relationship problems. The music also has a lot less swearing and bad language in it. And I believe that the music that is popular now days has more meaning and life lessons tied in with them.
I know some people may not agree, but I think what scares older generations the most when it comes to modern day music is that they think it makes teenagers do things and make bad life decisions. The fact is that sometimes teenagers do get into trouble, and rather than blaming the teenager for making stupid decisions they go ahead and blame the music that they listen to. But although music may shape us to an extent, it cant make people do anything and people choose to change. So blaming the music that teenagers listen to for the problems in society and in teenagers lives is unfair. No matter the genre of music teenagers listen to, they are all the same in the way music can make our lives better, more interesting, and all together more fun.
